The Chongsheng Temple And The Three-Pagoda
The three towers of Chongsheng Temple are located 1.5 kilometers northwest of the ancient city of Dali, facing the Yingle Peak of Cangshan Mountain in the west, and Erhai Lake in the east, and about 1,500 meters away from the foot of the mountain. At 336 meters south, Taoxi flows eastward. There is Meixi 76 meters to the north and Yunnan-Tibet Highway to the east.
The three towers are composed of one large, two small three pavilions. The big pagoda is also known as the Qianxun Pagoda. The local people call it “Wenbi Pagoda”. It has a height of 69.13 meters, a base of 9.9 meters, and a 16th grade. It was built during the Nanzhao Kingdom period (833-840) in the Tang Dynasty. It is a typical Dali area. Dense eaves hollow square brick tower. The north and south small towers are both ten-level and 42.17 meters high. They were built during the Zhengyan and Duan Zhengxing periods (1108~1172) of the Dali State. They are octagonal hollow brick towers with dense eaves. The three towers stand on top of each other, the Chihiro Pagoda is in the center, and the two small towers guard the north and the south.
The three towers of Chongsheng Temple combine three functions in one, and the art of tower building is at its peak, with extremely high historical, cultural and architectural value.
Chongsheng Temple
Chongsheng Temple, facing Erhai Lake in the east and Cangshan Mountain in the west, is located about one kilometer north of the ancient city of Dali in Yunnan Province, at the foot of Diancang Mountain and on the shore of Erhai Lake. In history, there are 9 emperors of Dali who became monks in Chongsheng Temple, and they are called “Tianlong Temple” in Jin Yong’s martial arts novel “The Eight Parts of the Dragon”.
Chongsheng Temple was once famous for its five major artifacts (three pagodas, Nanzhao built great bell, rain bronze Guanyin statue, three sage golden statues, and “Buddha” plaque), but Chongsheng Temple and the other four major artifacts Are destroyed by wars and natural disasters of the past dynasties
