Kunming Old Street
Kunming Old Street is the last remaining historical district in Kunming, comprising several nearby streets. The area preserves many residential buildings with architectural styles from the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China era, making it the most authentic representation of old Kunming! Here, you can savor traditional flavors of small pot rice noodles, hunt for genuine Yunnan antiques, and visit century-old pharmacies and bookstores from the United University era. If you want to experience the most historical side of Kunming, Old Street is a must-visit destination.
Streets Overview
1️⃣ Wenming Street
Wenming Street is perhaps the liveliest part of Kunming Old Street, bustling daily with restaurants and snack stalls. You can find a wide variety of authentic local snacks here, such as small pot rice noodles, roasted sticky rice cakes, marinated chicken feet, grilled cheese, and milk liquor. The renowned Oriental Bookstore is also located on this street.
2️⃣ Qianwang Street
Qianwang Street is primarily home to bars, cafes, and restaurants. The street is clean, and compared to other streets, it is quieter during the daytime. The charming alleys and unique residential buildings here are perfect for photography.
3️⃣ Yongdao Street
This street was originally the flower market of the Old Street and still hosts a flower and bird market for visitors to explore. The former residence of Nie Er, a famous composer, is located here and can be visited for free with an ID card.
4️⃣ Jingxing Street
Jingxing Street is known for antiques and jewelry, with a large jewelry market. Those interested in antiques might enjoy browsing the roadside stalls for hidden treasures.
5️⃣ Guanghua Street
Guanghua Street runs through the center of the Old Street. Key landmarks such as Fulin Hall, the Victory Memorial Hall of the War of Resistance Against Japan, and the popular Paper-Thin Building are all located here.

Tips for Visiting
- 1️⃣ Duiyue Tower (Paper-Thin Building) is the most iconic photo spot in Old Street. The corner angle is particularly photogenic! However, it’s always crowded. For portrait photography, visit early in the morning for fewer people. For scenic shots, choose a higher vantage point.
- 2️⃣ Old Street boasts many well-designed cafes, which are great for taking photos. YunDuan West Road (between the Memorial Hall and Paper-Thin Building) has several comfortable and photogenic cafes.
- 3️⃣ Nearby attractions such as Cuihu Park, the Military Academy, Wenlin Street, and Yunnan University are all within a 1-kilometer walking distance and can be explored on the same day.
- 4️⃣ The Old Street is also close to the Nanqiang Night Market. If visiting in the evening, you can head to the market for some food and drinks.
